Kwa upande wake, Mnadhimu Mkuu wa Majeshi ya Ulinzi, Luteni Jenerali James Mwakibolwa alisema malengo ya mafunzo hayo ni kubadilishana uzoefu na namna gani kitu fulani kikitokea kifanyike vipi. Luteni Jenerali Mwakibolwa alisema mafunzo hayo pia yanaongeza ufanisi na weledi katika majeshi, yalifunguliwa Desemba 4.

WAZIRI wa Mambo ya Nje na Ushirikiano wa Afrika Mashariki, Balozi Augustine Mahiga amesema kuna aina nne za mambo yanayotishia usalama katika nchi za Afrika Mashariki.

Mambo hayo ni ya ugaidi, uharamia, majanga kama matetemeko ya nchi, pamoja na ya kisiasa. Balozi Mahiga alisema hayo juzi wakati akifunga mafunzo ya ‘Ushirikiano Imara 2017’, jijini Dar es Salaam, ambayo nchi za Afrika Mashariki zimeshiriki ambazo ni Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda na Burundi.

Alisema licha ya tishio hizo, bado majeshi ya usalama yapo imara, na Tanzania mpaka sasa haijafikia hatua ambayo inatishia amani. Alisema kwa mara ya kwanza mazoezi hayo yamefanyika Tanzania, yanadumisha uzalendo na kubadilishana mawazo.

“Zoezi hili ni la muhimu sana na sehemu ya itifaki. Mwaka jana yalifanyika nchini Kenya. Leo ni fursa ya uongozi wa juu kabisa katika majeshi ya Afrika Mashariki kukaa pamoja na kufanya mazoezi pamoja na Tanzania tumekuwa wenyeji,” alisema Balozi Mahiga.

Magazine Announces List of 100 Most Influential Africans of 2017.

Cape Town — New African Magazine has announced its list of Africa's most influential people for 2017.

In an article on the magazine's website, Omar Ben Yedder, group publisher and managing director of IC Publications, says: "What our readers will find pleasing is the almost bewildering diversity of this list -  in terms of race, ethnic and national diversity. This list, if nothing else, displays the beauty and power of the diversity that makes the Africa we all love."

The list, which profiles both continental and Diasporan Africans nominated by their peers and industry insiders, covers eight categories:

• politics and public service
• business and finance
• civil society and activism
• education
• science, technology and innovation
• media
• arts and culture
• sport

There are 42 women on the list - the highest number since the magazine began publishing the list five years ago

With 21 entries, Nigeria tops the nominations, closely followed by South Africa with 14 names. In total the list includes entries from 31 countries including 12 from Francophone Africa.

"Our criteria for 'influential' this year was a fairly simple one – it is applied to people whose work or activity has had some sort of transformative effect outside their main calling. This effect results in a change of perception or provides inspiration to others. Many in our selection have shattered the proverbial glass-ceilings or disability stigma and do so with great bravery, determination and personal sacrifice. Others yield economic power that impacts world markets," said editor Anver Versi.

South Africa Confirms Withdrawal From ICC.

Justice and Correctional Service Minister Michael Masutha announced the government's intention at a meeting of the ICC's Assembly of States Parties (ASP) in New York on Wednesday.

There has been considerable speculation about whether the government would proceed with the withdrawal after the High Court ruled that its original application to withdraw had been unconstitutional because it had not gone through Parliament.

But Masutha told the ASP that on behalf of the Cabinet he would shortly serve on Parliament for its approval, a new notice of withdrawal from the Rome Statute.

Masutha said he would also introduce the International Crimes Bill, through which "Parliament will be requested to remove legal uncertainty regarding South Africa's international obligations under both domestic and international law.

"The Bill repeals the current Rome Statute Implementation Act (which makes the Rome Statute domestic law) and enacts international crimes similar to those in the Rome Statute. The new legislation will grant extra-territorial jurisdiction to our courts and proposes continued co-operation with other States and international bodies, including the ICC," Masutha said.
